_The Evening Post_, 22 September 1924:
            A RACE WITH DEATH
THE RAMA MAKES FOURTEEN
                KNOTS.
(BY TELEGRAPH.โ€”PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
                   CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.
Death rode a hard race with the little steamer #Rama and lost when she speeded to Port Waitangi, at the Chatham Islands, recently, securing medical aid for a sick passenger. Eight hours after the Rama left Wellington one of the passengers, Jack Dix, became ill. Amateur medical aid was given, but without avail. Captain Carter, master of the Rama, decided to run for Waitangi. Extra stokers were put to work, and soon the vessel was doing fourteen knots, instead of nine knots. Immediately on arrived [arrival] Dr. Ellison was called. He operated, and the patient is now on the road to recovery, but Dr. Ellison stated that had the vessel been a few hours later the patient would have been dead.
