I feel like it's been forever since I've posted any #CharmedAwayWIP, so here's a late #ScreenshotSaturday (or very early #WIPWednesday?) of Zuri in the confessional looking pissed about something her wife just revealed. (no spoilers! π)
I love how expressive Zuri's face turned out (all the elves, really.) It wasn't even intended - mostly just a side-effect of giving her those huge elf eyes, I think.

#WritersCoffeeClub May 26: In your work, how much of an active character is your setting?
This concept is new to me, and seems to mean different things to different people - for some it seems to simply mean that the setting is present and thematic, and I feel that the Pirate Isles do contribute in that way, but it seems like a pretty low bar for "character".
For the high-bar meaning of setting-as-character that makes most sense to me, though (the setting acts and is acted upon, appears to have agency and intent, and shows development through the story), I don't think I'm currently doing this, or have ever, really. Sounds fun to try - next time.

#WordWeavers May 25: Do you prefer writing wealthy, middle class, or indigent characters?
I'm going to avoid the temptation of getting bogged down over those terms. I think most of my interest when it comes to writing about wealth and privilege is usually in the contrasts between.
Part of the fun of writing about wealthy folks is that I feel better about mocking them.

In the Charmed Away reality, Sirens (often called mermaids by surface dwellers) have a tail when wet. When they dry off, they magically get legs.

I'm trying not to insert a big loredump into Charmed Away about magic and technology because it really doesn't matter - this is NOT hard scifi! π
Instead, I'm just sprinkling weird little fantasy-magic-things-made-modern into the background without explanation. Like the autocauldron, which replaces the electric kettles and coffee pots and rice cookers and slow cookers of our world.
