A solo exhibition by contemporary surrealist street artist Miranda Donovan opens at the Woolff Gallery in Charlotte Street this week.

The exhibition reveals some never-before seen paintings which reconstruct walls into mesmerising collages of peeling paint, text and machine-like characters.

Goodge Street is closed from today to all motor and cycle traffic between Charlotte Street and Whitfield Street due to cables being installed below the surface of the carriageway.

Pedestrian access is being maintained.

According to signs posted on parking bays, the 24-hour, seven-days-a-week carriageway closure is due to last until 14 April.

Temporary traffic lights are in place at the junction with Charlotte Street which has been reduced to a single lane.

Diversions are in place via Windmill Street (off Charlotte Street) and Whitfield Street which has the one-way motor traffic reversed to accommodate the re-routed vehicles.

All road users will face significant delays in all directions moving through the junction of Goodge Street and Charlotte Street, as well as in the surrounding streets due to the diversion.

The Fitzrovia News suggests you avoid driving through the area if you have any sense.

Artist Russell West has a new exhibition starting this month at the Woolf Gallery, Charlotte Street, Fitzrovia.

West’s paintings are unique and unconventional, using paint skin as a medium. He processes layers of paint into three-dimensional graphs of colour, where they intersect the fields of abstract expressionism, assemblage and contemporary pop art all at once.

Police are appealing for information after a traffic incident at 5.20pm on Tuesday 15 August 2023 at the junction of Charlotte Street, Fitzroy Street and Howland Street in Fitzrovia.

Appeal signs have been placed by the police on Howland Street and Fitzroy Street but no other information has been provided.

Firefighters from Soho were the first of the emergency services to arrive to help a cyclist who was injured in a collision with a driver of a van at the junction of Charlotte Street and Goodge Street in Fitzrovia this morning.

Crews from Soho fire station could be seen giving first aid to a man who was injured but conscious as he lay in the road at the busy intersection at around 9.20am on Wednesday morning. Firefighters also closed Charlotte Street with red tape while their colleagues attended to the rider.
