One of the weird side effects of #CharacterCreationChallenge2026 is that I'm really being pushed into making characters for RPGs I'm not necessarily excited about all the time.
I have a large collection. I don't necessarily pick up everything because I know I'm just going to be bouncing off the walls in love with the thing that I've picked up, going through it literally one at a time in reverse chronological order of acquisition and seeing some of my less than pristine choices and spending the time being face down long enough to make a character in them. It is very revelatory. I can nail down why I don't like the things that I don't like pretty precisely. And as much as that feels like work, it's also a way to know myself better, which a lot of people don't spend the time doing and is a lot of painful effort a lot of the time. So this is educational. It's useful.
But it's not always the most fun part of my January. Every day.
