nodds in agreement
I've seen this on other conventions and stuff...
It's not that I'll ever expect any kind of compensation even if invited, tho if I was going to something like #ChaosCommunicationCongress / #C3 or #ChaosCommunicationCamp / #CCCamp not for my own enjoyment or because it's a business expense I'd at least expect less fortunate presenters to at least be offered some means of transportation and accomondation.
Not like a first-class flight and 5* hotel but at least some seat and luggage space in someone's car scheduled for the event and a folding camping bed to get some shuteye if one's not red-eye'ing back the same night...
Maybe allowing some performers to also sell some merch whilst they're at it is an option for a furry convention, but espechally when they ain't like within a days distance as a roadtrip away from the venue, it should be acknowledged as the labour it is and at least put a hat down for people to chip in if one's unable to pay - tho with most conventions getting more and more pricy I'm shure there's some money to pay the people that get placed front and center on promo materials so they don't no-show like all artists did at #FyreFestival when no #deposit was paid on time...
And yes, for most commercial artists there's like a big non-negotiable deposit to be paid in advance so if door sales flop they got at least their expenses covered...
I'm shocked anyone but the most desperate would accept the terms you described, because every artist I know from music and acting would give everyone the finger if they unsarcastically said there's not going to be any deposit for them...
- Unless it's like a charity event they want to be part of, but those conventions usually ain't some big event to fight some disease or sth...
