Do the red things represent what they're trying to escape from? Red strings, red lighting, red ... shopping trolley?? hmm

The chain appears to be attached to Chan's wrist with the simple kind of connector that you'd use to attach a dog's leash to its collar. (I don't know what it's usually called.)

I like how there's supposed to be this impression that they're trailing these chains from their wrists and can't do much about them, but in fact they could be easily removed if they just applied their *thumbs*.
