I started ttrpg with dnd 5e but since then I found other systems I like much much more. dnd5e is not even in the top 10 anymore for me.

My top three favourite systems currently are: Hero System/ChampionsRPG, Traveller/Cepheus Engine and The Gemini System.

also the Universe has sick sense of humour, we humans just have to deal with it somehow.

I solved my not being able to play ttrpg games because of scheduling by finding a text based game that runs Mo-Fr. 😄
usually starts around 20:30h CET with a live GM and we play using a MUSH server to hold the world and handle all the dice rolling and character sheets 😃 the whole RP and gaming part is done by human players.

It has a really nice old school feel to it and its a ton of fun playing a super hero so often 😃

a tangent: I never played MUDs/MUSHes etc

But for around 1.5 years I combined my #ttrpg hobby with MUSH: I play a #championsrpg game text based on a MUSH server with actual GMs 🙂

playing life text based ttrpg on a MUSH server is so much fun 🙂

My favorite now small #ttrpg is #HeroSystem its a genre agnostic system from the 80s it was much more popular back then but now its very niche.
I mostly play its Super Hero version #ChampionsRPG

Hero System is fairly crunchy and involved in Character Creation and GM preparation but actual play is super easy and straight forward with most rolls being 3d6 :-)

Another game that is very promising but currently in beta is Gemini (it got its name before google named their AI crap gemini.)

#GeminiRPG is a new system based on OpenD6 with lots of Hero dna mixed in. it also aims to be genre agnostic but Super Hero games are really nice supported.

The HeroSystem is a genre agnostic system with focus on cinematic.

It was made to mimic the feel of comic books.

fair Warning: The Character creation and GM preparation is much more crunchy and involved.

Playing it is very straight forward and easy as 90% of rolls are just 3d6 rolling low rolls.

Other books that really help for making super hero is Champions Powers. Dont get Champions Complete for the full price its not worth it all the rules are in the two books linked above and they come with examples that are missing in champions complete.

The beauty of HeroSystem is you can play any Hero you can think of the System can handle most ideas of heroes 🙂

Playing a Super Hero is different than any other #ttrpg I have played to far. Playing in a golden age super hero world discourages the "murder hoboing" a great deal 😄

Another Option Would be the Marvel Multiverse RPG its relatively new but I cannot say much about it as I have not looked at the books for that yet.

HeroSystem/ChampionsRPG/FantasyHero use meters as distances and does not need a grid in 6th edition. In the Editions before it used to use a hex grid but not anymore, but older players and GMs still use the old lingo like "hits hex" 😉

Playing it is fairly straight forward as its a 3d6 system. Most challenges are done with a 3d6 roll aiming to get a low number.

Character Creation is fairly involved and crunchy and might not be for anyone, fair warning. But in return you get a very flexible system that is genre agnostic. It also requires more prep work for a GM at the start as it gives a lot of freedom and its up to the GM to keep things balanced.
