My Cephalotus follicularis collection is thriving with a diverse range of pitcher forms and colors. From the striped patterns to solid greens, each variety shows the remarkable diversity within this unique Australian species. The Albany pitcher plant (Cephalotus follicularis) is the only species in its genus and produces these distinctive hairy pitchers that are perfectly adapted to catching small insects in its native southwestern Australian habitat.

My Cephalotus is growing new pitchers!
The fresh green traps are popping up between the older, darker ones. I love the contrast—this little Australian carnivore is always fascinating to watch.

My Cephalotus is waking up! New leaves are emerging, and I’ve spotted a few tiny traps forming. Always exciting to see this little carnivore grow!

My four seedgrown Cephalotus follicularis, Australian Pitcher Plant. A carnivore completely unrelated to all others worldwide (it’s related to Oxalis and Magnolias more than any carnivorous plant), it has a completely unique structure and unique seasonal growth habit (pitchers are naturally produced in warmer summer weather mostly, while cooler winters trigger flat photosynthetic leaves).

I am still sorting out how to focus and light subjects with this microscope, but I am having fun! Two of these are #MexicanPinguicula that are #insectivores for the most part. One image is of the transparent windows at the top of a #CephalotusFollicularis which confuse their prey. #CarnivorousPlant #houseplant The pings are great for taking down fungus gnats.
#CephalotusFollicularis normally eats ants in the wild, but this one is a tiny one that was grown from seed in a nursery. I don’t think it has had anything like that yet. This is one of the first shots on my new phone #macro lens. I am still getting the hang of it. #HousePlants #CarnivorousPlants #MacroPhotography #Plants
