@adriftinaotearoa that inflexibility is one of the reasons why I'll do the paper #Census2023 form. I did that last time after the Chief Statistician advised that people who didn't want to tick M or F boxes should use paper and tick both M and F. I've since been told by former Stats NZ staff that the double ticks were ignored and gender either imputed on the basis of other information, or set aside and ignored. Even Stats NZ own researchers weren't allowed to refer to the double ticked forms!!
