US depends on Canadian oil, despite Trump’s comments, Cenovus CEO says #Economy #World #Canada oil #Cenovus #donald trump tariffs
@friesen5000 Those ads are infuriating. I'm not an economist, but I've heard economists describe how selling fossil fuels tends to increase the exchange rate of the local currency. That higher exchange rate makes other exports less competitive globally and is actively harming our manufacturing and services industries, which will be around much longer than the fossil fuel industry.
The fossil fuel industry is almost parasitic, acting to weaken other industries.
So Cenovus, a large petroleum company, is running an ad in Canada that is essentially "Nice economy you got there. Be a shame if something happened to it."
I guess if greenwashing isn't working they're going to try convince us we can't have nice things if they're not around. Doesn't seem like a healthy dynamic.
Many people in the small community of Conklin, Alta., struggle to access suitable housing despite living a stone's throw from the lucrative Christina Lake oilsands project. But some residents will soon move into new homes thanks to a partnership between the community and oilsands company Cenovus Energy.
