The building in the picture is the central crematorium with chapel complex at the Südfriedhof in Leipzig. Every time I stand before it, I feel its quiet grandeur. With its striking bell tower rising about 60 to 63 meters high, it’s visible from afar – a landmark of remembrance. It’s the largest cemetery structure in Germany, and you can feel that in every stone.

Das abgebildete Gebäude ist das zentrale Krematorium mit Kapellenanlage auf dem Südfriedhof Leipzig. Jedes Mal, wenn ich davor stehe, bin ich beeindruckt von seiner stillen Größe. Mit seinem rund 60 Meter hohen Glockenturm ragt es weithin sichtbar über das Gelände – ein Wahrzeichen der Erinnerung. Es ist das größte Friedhofsbauwerk Deutschlands, und das spürt man in jedem Stein.

Framed by rough stone, this old circular window tells of times past. The delicate, weathered stone arches form a pattern reminiscent of Gothic sacred buildings. Through the dark openings, the silence of the cemetery peers through—a symbol of transience and eternity at once. A window that hides more than it reveals.

Eingefasst in rauen Stein erzählt dieses alte Rundfenster von vergangenen Zeiten. Die filigranen, von der Witterung gezeichneten Steinbögen formen ein Muster, das an gotische Sakralbauten erinnert. Durch die dunklen Öffnungen blickt die Stille des Friedhofs hindurch – ein Symbol für Vergänglichkeit und Ewigkeit zugleich. Ein Fenster, das mehr verbirgt als es zeigt.
