// Gaaaah, I could share so many more buildings today! 🙈 But one more tiny #church or #chapel is a must: the fascinating #WattsCemeteryChapel in the village of Compton, #Surrey. Resident artist Mary Fraser-Tytler went wild with #ModernStyle, #CelticRevival, and several other styles in 1896. Many contemporaries were not amused, but if you're ever in the vicinity, pay a visit and be flabbergasted (or 𝘨𝘰𝘥smacked?). 😉 Also: #Doorsday!

Join us as we go on a deep dive into Gaelic periodicals, publishing, and language with Dr Petra Johana Poncarová.

Ruaraidh Erskine of Mar (1869–1960) was born #OTD, 15 Jan.

“A distinctly flamboyant figure, Erskine may come across as one of the eccentric, larger-than-life personalities involved in the whirlwind of political initiatives and small magazines around the turn of the century. However, his magazines played a vital role in the development of modern Gaelic fiction, drama, and journalism.”

The Orgies Were Strategic! (A Surprising Defence of the Druids)

As someone who studies the Celtic revival, one question has been needling me. People involved in the early revival a) tended to read a lot of Greek and Roman classics, and b) liked to identify with…
