Priority job before the heatwave hits: Install the new ceiling lamp. It solves several problems, primarily my pet peeve about modern LED ceiling lamps being offensively ugly and priced far beyond stupid. A short length of LED strip, a diffuser and a little power supply should not cost €70, that is an insult to people who know what they are made of.

This one is also low profile (doesn't protrude past the ceiling beams) so I won't bonk my head on it and of course it moves air. And #Knirps can't reach it (yet).

We'll see about durability. But I like the look.

On lowest settings my legs are getting cold because it is already warm enough I threw my pants off while installing it 🤣

We don't have aircon in our house (it's the UK, the need hasn't been high until recent years), but we do have a ceiling fan in the bedroom.
@TechConnectify 's latest video about ceiling fans - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KWdCqpXB7A - has made me think it might be time to replace the one we have. It rattles and hums while spinning the blades.

Our unit is a combination room light and fan. There are pull chains on it to switch the light on/off and change the speed of the fan.
This means that there is just one wall switch and power cable going to the unit.

If we're replacing what we have, it would be great to be able to hook it into Home Assistant - allowing for the fan to be switched on for a bit before going to bed without having to go there first, or have it come on at preset times, or when the room temperature is above a given level. Automation is fun :)

Do I look for a unit with Matter communication abilities, or get a "dumb" unit and a separate Matter controller?

I'd like to avoid pull chains on the unit to control it as this makes it difficult to automate.

Has anybody found a solution for this need?
