Look, Canada. We need to get serious about this for a moment: two-tier healthcare isn’t just an Alberta problem. It’s convenient for other governments to sit back and let Alberta (deservingly) take the heat on this, meanwhile they’re all quietly standing by and letting it happen in other provinces (and federally). How long have we been promised fixes to our failing healthcare system? How’s that going so far?

The reality is that ALL our leaders are creating the conditions that will push us into a private system, some are just more transparent about it than others.

The Canadian Cancer Society warns Carney government that its legislation to eliminate interprovincial trade barriers could "undermine (provincial) health standards"

"Provincial rules are sometimes weaker, and warns of a possible resurgence of products banned by federal regulation" (e.g. asbestos)

Bill C-5 should be changed to exempt health and environment standards to avoid weakening them

Emergency Rooms now beyond over-capacity = dangerous "choke points"

Respiratory viruses -- flu, RSV, and now Covid19 -- increase seasonally, but ER visits *doubled* this year into 2024

Domino effect: Huge wait times for rehab, long-term care, palliative care, etc.

Issue compounded by lack of access to primary care -- decades-long issue

🗝️Need preventative care + system overhaul

Over-capacity ERs are dangerous choke points. But hospital challenges go far deeper | CBC News

Canadian emergency rooms are overflowing while an array of respiratory illnesses — COVID-19 included — keep circulating. And it's happening against a backdrop of behind-the-scenes backlogs that turn front-line ERs into dangerous choke points.
