Today, June 17, the Church remembers Saint Albert Chmielowski, a gifted Polish painter who walked away from fame to become known simply as "Brother Albert, friend of the poor." 🎨
He had talent, recognition, a future as an artist. But when he saw the homeless and forgotten on the streets of Krakow, something in him shifted. He gave up his studio for the streets, choosing to live in poverty himself so he could serve those the world had cast aside.
Brother Albert once said, "If he is bread, let us too become bread... let us give ourselves." That is the heart of true outreach: not just giving from our excess, but giving ourselves.
This is the same spirit that animates Saint Francis Parish and Outreach. Every meal served, every hand extended, every person welcomed is an echo of Brother Albert's witness. ✝️
Saint Albert Chmielowski, pray for us. May we have the courage to see the people others overlook, and the heart to serve them as Christ himself.
