A sudden loss of power, perceived even by the passengers, triggered safety procedures. The change in speed immediately alarmed those on board.
Faced with the criticality, the crew chose the most prudent solution: reverse course and return to the departure point. Before landing, however, it was necessary to remain in flight over the sea for an extended period: approximately two hours of circular maneuvers to reduce fuel and put the aircraft in the safest possible conditions for descent.
