New Aluminum-Based Catalyst Could De-Throne Platinum Group

Platinum-group metals (PGMs) are great catalysts, but they’re also great investments — in the sense that they are very, very expensive. Just ask the guy nicking car exhausts in the Walm…

Energy-efficient catalyst converts water pollutants into useful ammonia

When the current method for producing something is estimated to consume a staggering 1–2% of the annual global energy supply, it means we need to make a change. The Haber-Bosch process produces ample amounts of ammonia (NH3)—a valuable chemical compound that has a wide array of uses in fields such as agriculture, technology, and pharmaceuticals—while consuming a lot of energy.

🗓️ Our colleague Franziska Winter will give a lecture at the “Jahrestreffen Deutscher Katalytiker” in Weimar on March 12: In the session “Hydrogen Generation and Use”, she will take a look at #ammonia decomposition – in both conventional and directly electrically heated (ohmic) reactors. She is dealing with the development of electrically conductive cobalt-carbon #catalysts for use in ohmic reactors as well as the role of promoters for stability and catalytic activity.
