#Mayor & #council in #Burnaby #BritishColumbia have voted to add #caste as a #ProtectedCategory in the city’s #CodeOfConduct . The motion, tabled by Councillor Sav Dhaliwal, was passed #unanimously to include caste as a protected category in city policies.
This follows recent steps taken by #Canadian jurisdictions to ban #CasteBased #discrimination specifically.

Disability and caste bias: A shared struggle

The Supreme Court of India recently amplified this vulnerability by looking at violence against a blind Dalit woman through the lens of intersectionality. An upper-caste disabled man may have hesitation to engage and interact with people with disabilities belonging to lower castes due to prevailing caste consciousness.
