#Italy must pay compensation to #migrants who were not permitted to disembark from a coast guard ship in August 2018, the country's top court ruled on Friday, sparking a furious reaction from the #RightWing government.

The 177 migrants who were held aboard the #Diciotti ship for 10 days were deprived of their personal #freedom, the #CassationCourt ruled, and accordingly are entitled to damages from the #Italian state.

#Italy's top court on Wed said that a #fascist salute may b a crime even if performed during commemorative event, in contrast 2 reports following ruling earlier this year

The #CassationCourt has clarified that a # of factors must b considered when evaluating whether the salute constitutes a crime, & that making the so-called #SalutoRomano during a commemoration does not automatically "neutralise" the offence, state broadcaster #RAI News reports
