General Motors provided seven of each muscle car for filming, only two were returned in pristine condition with others heavily modified for filming. The climatic chase in a 24-acre cornfield outside Albuquerque was made particularly tricky due to a snowstorm prior to filming. The production had not planned for muddy and hard to drive on ground adding to the complications.

The sequence was coordinated by famed French stuntman Remy Julienne.

29 copies of Black Beauty were made from scrounged 1964, 1965, and 1966 Chrysler Imperial Crown Sedans, many of which were rusted out, and had to be rebuilt. Only 3 survived production intact.

A world record was set for 103 cars being wrecked during filming. This record was beaten by 'The Junkman' two years later with 150 cars and one aeroplane.
