I didn't get much sleep so feeling pretty rough, but what really hurts me today is the bureau of cars #PBOT talking about safety and bike/walk connectivity while planning πŸ’Έ for the same old #cars1stAlwaysOnly designs that don't connect out the other end to somewhere people would be safe, and nothing will be on the ground until late 2025 except a few months of #WorkZoneWTF where they probably try really hard not to inconvenience cut-through drivers but just shrug at kids trying to walk to school.

I honestly don't believe #PBOT can't do the math on the weight of some concrete barriers, it's the value of keeping cars out of bike lanes that they just don't understand. Children's safety and independence vs the fully-imagined satisfaction of your "customers" that you subsidize at like $5/mile, it's a tough call. #CarsRuinCities #StuffInTheStreet #CarSupremacy #cars1stAlwaysOnly #trafficEngineers #InducedDemand

Multco library choosing cars instead of #housing even though a driver just killed a librarian who was waiting at the bus stop there. 😞 #Portland #ZeroVision #Libraries #transit #Cars1stAlwaysOnly #CarSupremacy #ClimateCrisis #CarsRuinCities
#WorkZoneWTF #BarburBlvd + the 2nd and 3rd time passing this same bus since the bottom of the hill. We really need our #transportation agencies to do better for people on #eBikes, but what is it going to take? Is that a memo from the governor/mayor and they'll start actually caring, or we just delete ODOT/PBOT and start fresh with safety-by-design as an operations culture? #ClimateEmergency vs institutional delay excuses etc πŸ™„ but all I see is stalling and a #Portland for #Cars1stAlwaysOnly.

I need a wider-angle lens to show how this lane is that much wider than a car, FFS #TrafficEngineers GTFO with your paint. #PBOT #ClimateDenial #Cars1stAlwaysOnly
#Portland #pdx has been breaking-in a fresh new #pdxTraffic commissioner (with no bureau director for 6 months...), and Mingus Mapps seems to still be focused on the stack of boondoggle carway projects #PBOT has put in front of him. Seems to think that the members of the Bike + Pedestrian Advisory Committees are here to lobby for more funding for the bureau of traffic to continue the status quo of maintaining the whole transportation system for #cars1stAlwaysOnly. Drivers feeling the $30M cut?

re: why #Portland can't have nice things: The trick is to make each "ride your bike in relatively car-free safety" event an expensive optional line-item requiring lots of money for "traffic control", but frame as unavoidable the $2M+/day we spend letting cars have free reign of the entire system for the other 362 days.

#PBOT had a survey about the idea of a #roundabout at #Multnomah & #GardenHomeRd. Over 2/3rds of respondents asked for some kind of separated path on this stretch of Multnomah. There is always someone walking in this bike lane. The project was complicated by how to prioritize left turns into the driveway of the bar (where the very same #drunkDriver from the above crash had last been drinking.) Nothing has been done. #CityThatPlans #Cars1stAlwaysOnly
