So I moved on from White Fragility and right into #WhiteRage by #CarolAnderson. I haven't even finished the first chapter and already it's shockingly eye opening. Anderson describes a *very* different history of the US civil war and the ideals of union leadership in the following years. It's no fucking wonder black people are still struggling so much for equality in this country when union leadership couldn't even admit the civil war was about slavery (I thought this was only a problem with our history books) and "punished" the confederacy by giving the land back to them and letting them rule the southern states without federal intervention. Most of them went immediately back to government supported slavery, minus the explicit term "slavery".
It's absolutely criminal that this isn't taught in grade school history classes.
