π£οΈ "Oh, Rosanna, you cannot have kids and a career! It's either kids or a career!"
π£οΈ "Oh, Rosanna, once you have your baby, you will never want to work again."
π£οΈ "Oh, Rosanna, your priorities will change. You will no longer want to make a career."
π£οΈ "Oh, Rosanna, are you giving your baby to a daycare?! If you put a one-year-old in a daycare, you don't love your baby." (this one was actually said by a kindergarten teacher!)
These are real examples
#leadership #dei #carework #careerandfamily
I have been in both situations and have had to justify both a child-free life and having a baby in many conversations.
π£οΈ "Oh, Rosanna, why don't you have kids?"
π£οΈ "Oh, Rosanna, you need to get kids."
π£οΈ "Oh, Rosanna, but you don't understand it. You don't have a family."
π£οΈ "Oh, Rosanna, you can devote your time to your career, because you don't have kids."
π£οΈ "Oh, Rosanna, you want kids and a career?!?!?! Especially, as an executive?!?!?!"
β ANOTHER BAD NEWS: Whether you choose to stay child-free or have children, either choice could be bad for your career if you meet the wrong people.
β ANOTHER GOOD NEWS: So do what you think is right for YOU! ...and look for people who are curious and not judgmental. Look for people who support you as a human being, no matter what your gender or choice is.
Should I stay child-free or should I get a baby? π§΅
β GOOD NEWS: Don't worry, it doesn't matter!
β BAD NEWS: The only difference is your gender. You will have to justify both being child-free and having a baby in your career.
WHY
It is extremely fulfilling for me to have this kind of balance between #carework, professional work and personal development. Happy parents, happy baby. Do what makes you happy. I decided to share this very personal story to inspire other women and give them some hope and strength if they are currently struggling with their balance. Whatever balance is right for you
