The Pentagon plans to shake up DC’s National Guard, criticized for its response to protests, Jan. 6

U.S. officials say the Pentagon is developing plans to restructure the National Guard in Washington, D.C. The goal is to address problems highlighted by the chaotic response to the Jan. 6 riot and safety breaches during the 2020 protests over the murder of George Floyd. Officials say the changes under discussion would transfer aviation units from the District of Columbia. Those units came under sharp criticism during the protests when a helicopter flew dangerously low over a crowd. The district could get more military police, which is often the city’s most significant need. Several officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. They say no final decisions have been made.

They set up a sting op, with the Navy moved him to a fake job with no access to #TopSecret docs, which he'd formerly had access to. 😬 Yet they only charged him for buying unregistered silencers & a few tame felonies & misdemeanors for the #CapitolSiege. At least he was convicted of both sets of charges, to be sentenced this spring. #DomesticTerrorism #ProudBoys

Brazilian authorities say they are looking into who may have been behind the shocking uprising that sent protesters storming into the nation’s halls of power in a riot that had striking similarities to the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. In an unprecedented display for Latin America’s largest nation, thousands of supporters of ex-President Jair Bolsonaro swarmed into Congress, the Supreme Court and the presidential palace on Sunday. Many of them said they wanted the Brazilian army to restore the far-right Bolsonaro to power and oust the newly inaugurated leftist president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
