(COSTA RICA) Waking up before sunrise in a cabin deep in the Manzanillo forest. Outside, it begins with the noisy chorus of birds… then crack—a branch bends, the shadow lengthens, and the spider monkey (Ateles) glides through the canopy as if it had signed a stuntman's contract.
What's always impressive: that prehensile tail that acts as a fifth hand, the lightness of its movement, and the way it vanishes as soon as it appears. A keystone species of the rainforest, it disperses seeds by feeding on fruit—in other words, it replants the forest while we're still searching for the snooze button.
