While past Canada Post worker strikes seem to have been mostly for CUPW and its members' self-interest (and with impacts on the public at large) ' would guess this latest, ongoing strike is probably their last stand for (yes, much of their self-interest, but also) protecting what remains of and would maintain any semblance of an actual public postal service.

Not having a public postal service would really suck - of course the private companies will end up just price-gouging while their service slowly declines (à la grocery, telecommunications, insurance, airline cartels).

Their struggle now deserves support.
