Here's a thoughtful, gentle question and comment on Canadian culture that all Canadians would do well to consider. Is it time for us to change direction? I think it is.
Sipping my morning coffee, I can’t help but wonder—what kind of country could Canada have been if we’d followed the Nordic model Pierre Elliott Trudeau wanted, instead of the U.S. economic integration we got under Mulroney?
Sipping my morning coffee, I can’t help but wonder—what kind of country could Canada have been if we’d followed the Nordic model Pierre Elliott Trudeau wanted, instead of the U.S. economic integration we got under Mulroney? We’ve been quietly economically annexed by the U.S. for 50 years. Look around: our companies are owned by U.S. corporations, most of what we consume is imported from them, our media is blended with theirs, even our school textbooks come from the States. This wasn’t an accident—it was the conservative plan all along. And now? They’d finish the job if given the chance. Just listen to Alberta, to the federal Conservative Party, to the policy alignment across Canada’s conservative movement. It’s time to cut the apron strings. Time to reclaim our country, our identity, and our economic future. Canada doesn’t need to live in America’s shadow—we can stand on our own two feet and become the country we were meant to be. Trudeau saw that potential. It won’t be easy. The U.S. won’t let go without a fight. But for our future, we have to push. This is Canada’s moment. And I’m here for it. 🇨🇦
Existential Friday: America July 4th 2025
Florida is now home to both Disney World, and America’s future concentration camp. Let that horrific eldritch absurdity sink in on this July 4th, and let us mourn the death of a country and the democratic ideals it claimed as its own.
