Good people of Camberville: I don't know a gentle way to say this but if you wait until tomorrow -- or worse, Sunday -- to hit up Market Basket, you really need to reconsider your priorities in life. It's already Full Metal Basket mode up in there and the storm is still two days away. May the force be with you, procrastinators!
UPDATE: awwww man postponed due to SNURRRRR, rescheduled date tba.
Hey so it’s gonna be a hella snowy weekend but if you’re local to Somerville you should come check out SOMERCON at the Armory on Sunday 1/25 - all games are sold out but a $10 daytime entry ticket gets you in the door to check out the vendors (that’s me! And lots of other cool people!), sit in on the panel discussions, grab a paint-and-take, and soak up those good nerdy vibes. I have a bunch of new stuff including two new dragon messenger bags and a bunch of new tote bags. It’ll be fun. Wear your snowshoes.

MASSACHUSETTS! WE'RE NEXT!
Heads up! Boston City Hall is preparing for a ICE/DHS/CBP surge and observers report an uptick in activity around the Burlington ICE facility suggestive of an imminent surge, including the delivery of new vehicles. Observers report sightings at Alewife and MGH.

Caught the Midwinter Revels (dress rehearsal show) at Sanders Theatre tonight, and my heart was warmed. It remains a candle in the darkness. Go see it if you can, and sing! sing! sing!

(This year it's even better if you know some Swedish, but not necessary.)

New Porter Square billboard dropped this month, like a cool breeze in a blistering heat wave. It'll be up for two more weeks.
"Radicals Redeem America"
(backstory at the gofundme: https://www.gofundme.com/f/radicals-redeem-america)
Anyone in the Cambridge/Somerville/Medford (MAMAS) region, or elsewhere in greater Boston involved in an active "internet resiliency club"? (c.f. this post and the megathread it spawned: https://kolektiva.social/@franklinlopez/114705462714586000 and https://bowshock.nl/irc, frequently referenced).
I'm an ex-network engineer with some skills and some spare equipment, but not a ham (except on stage), and a bit flummoxed by the projects out there (Reticulum, Meshtastic, SSB, etc). I'm too old and jaded to believe that we can solve the problems of people with technology, especially fragile/bespoke tech; you solve them via community organizing. But tech can facilitate community, so I'd like to figure out how we could maintain local/regional digital comms if our current house of NICs collapses.

Yo, real talk—what the fuck are we gonna do when the internet gets shut off? We've seen it in #Gaza, in #Iran, and when Elon “I-play-God” Musk blacked out Starlink in Ukraine. Every time shit gets heavy, the state or some oligarch clown just pulls the plug. It ain’t just a glitch—it’s strategic, it’s repression, and it’s a fucking reminder that most of our comms infrastructure is in the hands of fascists, corporations, or both. I’ve been working with indigenous comrades who rely on #Starlink to stay connected in remote areas. And yeah, it’s wild that you can be deep in the bush and still shitpost from a mountaintop—but that signal still runs through a pipeline owned by a Nazi tech bro. We need to be talking more about mesh networks, autonomous infrastructure, all that good shit that anarchist tech nerds have been yelling about for years. Decentralized, resilient, community-controlled comms aren’t just cool—they’re necessary for survival. Let’s keep this convo alive and start building the lifelines before the next blackout. Shit’s coming fast. https://www.vice.com/en/article/activists-are-designing-mesh-networks-to-deploy-during-civil-unrest/
