Leaving
#Wales again at
#Caergybi, I was reminded of my sister-in-law, whom we saw this weekend, and a native
#Welsh speaker and former teacher of Welsh at University, explaining to me how people from North Wales are referred to as "Gogs" by other Welsh speakers, presumably those not from North Wales (and themselves?). It was unclear to me whether this term was derogatory or just a common designation. I was also introduced to the glottal positioning differences between Welsh spoken in the North and that of the South. Irrespective of the nuances, and my lack of any clear grasp of the language, the captain of our ferry has just announced gale force 9 gusts on the crossing, seemingly borne out by the waves already crashing against the breakwater. Should be fun!
