In other Starcamp news a very persistent friend kept flying through the little window of our ‘pod’ (wooden hut) which I think is a long-horned #caddisfly. The river isn’t far away and they’re attracted to light.

Twice I gently relocated said fly outside, closed the window but s/he still got back in so I have to reward that persistence. Now it’s chilling out near the heater so who am I to deny that? 🤷‍♀️ Same dude, same. Just coexisting here.

Rare Caddisfly Thought to be Extinct in Britain Discovered in Wales

A species of caddisfly, the limnephilus pati, believed to have been extinct in Britain since 2016, has been rediscovered in north Wales. The insect was found during a survey at Cors Goch Nature Reserve on Anglesey, making it one of only three places in Britain where the species still exists. The lim... [More info]

#caddisfly larvae everywhere. They are interesting insects. They live for a year or more in the water. There they are astonishing architects for their cases.

If you look close, you can see a lot of Hydras on the pondweed. They are indeed special creatures. They are not ageing and don't die of age! They regenerate all the time. Very small but also very exceptional 🤩!

Spring in #Widdauen

This weekend we were greeted by a few families of Canada #geese at the #lake (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada_g…) .The goslings are really cute right now and ...

Yay! My backyard stream is healthy!
I looked under rocks and found a bunch of benthic macro invertebrate larvae (caddisfly hut and 2 something elses, probably mayfly or stonefly).
Since these only can survive in oxygen-rich, nonpolluted streams with appropriate food sources, my stream must be doing all right

May I introduce: her majesty, the #caddisfly 🪰

#RotterSee, 3m “soup” visibility, typical for #spring. A closer look reveals some funny fellows, especially at this time of the year. Camouflage is everything! Although, if you walk through the lake with one of these cases...very inconspicuous 🙈 ! Everyone has their own architectural style!

BÄCHE-BIOLOGIE

Warum heißen Köcherfliegen so? Dafür muss man sich anschauen, wie ihre Larven im Wasser leben. Die sind kleine Baumeister und bauen sich ihre eigenen Köcher.
