Okay all. I’m looking for my next read. I just finished a re-read of Donna Tartt’s “The Secret History”. Before that, re-read Gibson’s Sprawl trilogy. Did some rereading after disappointments. Lastly, The Cartographers by Peng Shepherd. Awful.

#WritersCoffeeClub Day 18: Are you comfortable making your readers uncomfortable? How far will you go?

This is a double-edged question. I suppose horror writers might be the exception, but generally readers will rebel if they feel you're manipulating them in this way.

On the other hand, I am writing #cyberpunk and that genre SHOULD make you feel uncomfortable. I think good fiction makes us a little uncomfortable because it is teaching us things about ourselves that we may not like. In the case of cyberpunk, we should see pieces of our present in those crumbling futures and if it doesn't make you uncomfortable to think about that, I don't know how to help you.
