Just a reminder that David Ingleby is hosting a CWGC War Graves Walk around Hyde Park Cemetery on Thursday May 21st at 10.00am as part of the Commission's annual War Graves Week. Attendees will hear about the early years of the Commission, how it decided what it was going to do and how it was going to do it, how war burials in this country differed from those overseas and, of course, find out the stories behind some of the casualties buried in the cemetery. And it is free so do go along as it will be very interesting. I have pinned it to the top of our Facebook Page so that you can find it easily #CWGC

This evening I joined a small tour and commemoration at #Westduin cemetery in The Hague.
This is part of a wider Dutch event of placing candles on the graves at allied war cemeteries and of WW2 resistance fighters and victims on Christmas Eve.
Tonight was cold and clear, and a smaller than usual crowd toured the cemetery, learning about the battle at Westduin (when Germany invaded in May 1940), visiting the #Stijkelgroep graves and memorial, and the #CWGC cemetery. #CanadaRemembers #DenHaag
#epigraphytuesday the saddest #CWGC epitaph I researched #LestWeForget L/CCHARLES FREDERICK BELL Died 2/2/18 Age 24 His wife was Cicely Florence The child his daughter,Ivy, born 5 months after he died. Cicely’s brother died a few months after her husband. She never remarried and lived to be 89.

Of the three #WarCemeteries I’ve visited here in #Normandy, I would argue the #British (actually #Commonwealth) is the most beautiful.

The smallest of the three, with 4144 Commonwealth graves - and 505 war graves of other nationalities, the majority German - the planting that lines all of the ornate gravestones makes it a stunningly beautiful and humbling place to visit.

The #CWGC have done a sterling job.
