So I was trying to detect browser support for COLRv1 font palettes. I thought this would work:

.colrv1-supported-area {
display: none;
}

@supports (font-palette: --1) {
.colrv1-supported-area {
display: block;
}
}

But it does not. The .colrv1-supported-area block shows up even in Safari Desktop and on iOS where COLRv1 palettes are not supported.

Anyone out there have a working solution for this? Or should I just give up on detecting support? #COLRv1 #ColorFonts #webDesign

I made stickers for my typeface Velzyland and I’m so happy with how they turned out. Velzyland includes a COLRv1 color variable font so all of the color gradients, depth and highlights you see here are built in to the font itself, along with other color pallets and variable depth and highlight axes. This is a project which made the creation of variable gradient fonts accessible to everyday designers. New platform, new techniques.

The TransformX conference, organised by Scale in Oct 2022, used a colour version of the Plakato font. The COLRv1 font format allows us type designers to add colours to fonts. Such new techniques will then become first possible in browsers, but other applications will soon follow. At the TransformX conference, the speakers were announced with the font Plakato Color (COLRv1 format) in a colour palette that matches the identity of the conference.
