"COAR Notify and the Launch of a Publish, Review, Curate Alliance."

PS: I'm a big fan of #COAR, #COARNotify, #PRC, #Preprints, and taking full advantage of #OpenAccess #Repositories.
Currently attending a @coar_repositories webinar which summarises recent work to better manage abusive #bot behaviour on #repositories (mostly #AI + #LLM based #bots).
@paulwalk presents some useful criteria for characterising bots: (Un)Welcome? Good/Bad behaviour?
#COAR advice on this topic available here:

Very helpfully @coar_repositories have published the outcome of the 'Dealing with #Bots Task Group'. Thanks! This includes a toolkit for #repository managers devised around the phases: Preparation, Protection and Mitigation. Essential reading for any institution with one or more repositories -- or indeed any digital library or archive. Let's bust the abusive bots!

Attention #repository people! @coar_repositories has issued a call for identifying new use cases of the #COAR #Notify protocol. This could include prototyping of innovative deployments of Notify to link, interact or integrate with repository resources and/or other services. Grants of €10.000 to be awarded.
Deadline for applications is **18 January 2026**. Full eligibility criteria at the link below. Get writing, folks!

Update. New from #COAR (@coar_repositories): "This paper explores the concept of #semantic #multilingual #search: an emerging approach that retrieves information by meaning rather than by exact wording, enabling users to search in any supported language and discover relevant work across all languages…When you ask a question in your language, the entire world should have a chance to understand and respond."
Yay! Attending the soft launch of the new International #Repositories Directory (IRD), created under the ausprices of @coar_repositories and led by @paulwalk. Kudos to all involved! The IRD presents a long needed superior model of #repository directory maintenance -- much needed to ensure we can leverage the power of networked repositories and build value added services on top of these repositories.

#COAR (@coar_repositories) is exactly right about what's wrong with the #ACS and #IEEE demands that their authors pay them a fee for the right to deposit their accepted author manuscripts (#AAMs) in #OpenAccess #repositories.
https://coar-repositories.org/news-updates/unfair-publisher-fees-for-deposit-into-repositories-highlight-the-need-for-authors-to-exercise-their-rights/
<blockquote>
* The charges applied are completely arbitrary and not based on any real service provision (for example, IEEE applies a fee to authors who want to apply a CC-BY licence to their AAM; and ACM applies a fee for removing the embargo period). They are just another funding stream for publishers that are already making huge profits.
* Deposit fees disadvantage authors who do not have funding to pay
* These fees amount to #DoubleDipping since the final published version of the AAM is made available behind a paywall with no discount
* This practice prevents universities and research organisations from creating an accessible record of their scholarly output.
</blockquote>
And COAR is exactly right about the solution: author #RightsRetention. When authors retain key rights, they don't need publisher permission to deposit their works in OA repositories -- or to use and reuse them in other important ways as well.

Executive Summary Every day, multiple bots access the repository at all hours 24/7. We estimate performance degradation due to bot activity about once or twice a day, and at least once a week the s…
