ARGVMI~1.PIFHer real name in the original Japanese is “Mārudia” and the false name she takes is “Māru”. I've seen this transliterated as “Marledia” and “Marl” respectively.
So yeah, like “Carl”.
She was renamed to “Nadia” in the English localization, presumably because to English speakers “Marledia” sounds rather villainous.
But now her false name of “Marle” is no longer an off-the-cuff abbreviation of her real name. That detail has been lost in translation.
