@andywalmsley As a former CBS Radio employee who regularly interacted with CBS News Radio, I have been particularly saddened by CBS News Radio's passing. Although it has been more than three decades since I worked for CBS and nearly all of the folks I worked with are retired or no longer with the company, CBS News Radio was respected by many as an institution, and the broadcaster retained its stature and integrity (and reach -- it was still being carried by 700+ U.S. stations when its closure was first announced) up to the very end.

CBS News Radio to Shut Down Today After Nearly a Century of Broadcasting
Peter King also gave an interview Monday on the Talking About Radio podcast with John Leslie, where King discussed in greater detail his own history in radio, including his time with CBS News.
Many of the folks King mentioned in both RadioInsight and the John Leslie podcast were people with whom I also interacted during my time with CBS.

CBS Radio News is no more! It ended abruptly for 700 affiliates in May of 2026. CBS Radio Correspondent Peter King ends a 30 year association with the 99 year old institution of CBS Radio News. Amonng reporting and anchoring dutie...
I am certainly among those saddened by the demise tomorrow of CBS News Radio. I had extensive interactions with radio personnel at CBS News when I worked for WWJ Radio (which was owned by CBS at the time) in the early 1990s, and the folks at CBS News Radio have always taken very seriously the legacy of Edward R. Murrow.
(I should point out that the radio stations were in a different corporate division — CBS Radio — from the network's radio news, which was under CBS News, although we had very frequent interactions, with CBS News providing coverage of stories to CBS radio stations, and the stations providing reports for the CBS News Radio network.)
Peter King has worked for three decades at CBS News, covering the U.S. space program and anchoring regular newscasts. He wrote a two-part reminiscence of his time at CBS for online trade newsletter RadioInsight, and the link is below.

Much has been reported about our storied history and our founding fathers-and rightfully so. However, I fear that much of the reporting has left readers/viewers with the mistaken impression that CBS News Radio’s glory days ended with Edward R. Murrow. Sadly, the people who’ve kept CBS News Radio thriving for decades have all but been ignored, unfairly. They deserve to be remembered as much as their predecessors are. This is hardly an all-inclusive list, but rather, a snapshot of an era about to end, with a few of my most memorable coworkers.
