Back to Somerset est un label (?) qui vient de publier en rafale depuis fin janvier plusieurs singles d'un groupe (?) nommé Hurry up, Gregory ! et quelques autres signés sous d'autres noms. A mon humble avis, un seul et même musicien se dissimule derrière tout ceci.
On sait juste que Back to Somerset est basé à Wells, dans le... Somerset, donc. Un slogan aussi : "Reviving the vibrant era of P!O!P!". Et, en guise de mot d'ordre, le titre du 1er EP publié : "Back to 1986".
Objectif largement atteint : ces titres apparemment tous composés en 2024 sonnent comme le meilleur #c86 de la grande époque. Indispensable !

Parmi les sources de l'indiepop, j'ai toujours professé une dévotion particulière pour le #c86. Et, dans le genre, ma sainte trinité serait, disons, Mighty Mighty, The Brilliant Corners et The Dentists.
Il va falloir que je revoie ma théologie en la matière. Je réalise en effet, à l'écoute de œuvres complètes de Hey Paulette, sorties hier, que le groupe mérite largement d'entrer au panthéon du genre.
Rien de vraiment inédit au fond : une compilation au contenu assez proche était déjà sortie en 2006. C'est par cette compil que j'avais d'ailleurs découvert le groupe de Dublin mais sans réaliser alors son importance musicale.
