Over the last decade or so I have been changing my buying habits for many things. I used to be very much of the "buy the minimum to get by, at the cheapest price" school, but I found I ended up re-buying things that broke, or which weren't entirely suited to purpose, or which my needs outgrew. Ended up more expensive and worse for the environment.
I have to say I'm happier now, buying better things to start with (when I can).
