💷 The #UK Department for Transport’s Greener Bus Tool is an Excel-based appraisal toolkit that helps local #transport authorities assess the value for money of investing in zero-emission #buses and minibuses, including battery electric and hydrogen vehicles. It calculates key measures such as the benefit-cost ratio (BCR), net present value and carbon reduction impacts, using guidance from the HM #Treasury Green Book and DfT transport analysis guidance. The tool compares proposed schemes against a “do minimum” scenario, usually replacing buses with Euro 6 diesel models, to estimate additional costs and benefits. It assesses impacts on operators, government finances, air quality, greenhouse gas emissions and wider society. Users input data including vehicle and infrastructure costs, annual mileage and funding sources. The tool also supports sensitivity testing and risk analysis to help improve scheme design and assess uncertainty.

The invention of buses - Works in Progress Magazine

Wheeled vehicles existed for 5,000 years before someone thought of running a bus service.

I grew up on buses in #Canberra, and though I was away for ~30 years, even with all its changes, I took to #PublicTransport again like a duck to water.

My wife, OTOH, grew up in Sydney and went straight from foot to car as soon as she was old enough. She’s in a wheelchair now, but despite all assurances of #accessibility, getting her onto #buses and #trams is an uphill—and ongoing—struggle. It just wasn’t part of her upbringing, and she hesitates to take it up. https://aus.social/@jessta/116513958083369947

A kid asking on /r/melbourne about how to use a train station. I wonder how many people don't use public transport simply because nobody showed them how to use it as a kid, then they started driving, and they never felt comfortable asking later in life. https://www.reddit.com/r/melbourne/comments/1t342pr/how_do_i_use_a_train_station/

Russian drones strike buses in brutal ‘Human Safari’

At least two people were killed and eight others were injured after Russian troops launched two separate #DroneAttacks on #buses in #Kherson on May 2.

All victims of the attack are #civilians, and the #Russians clearly understood this

In fact, such a brutal #HumanSafari on people is happening daily in our front-line and border communities.

A while back an #environment activist on here (alas, their toot disappeared in timeline) was trying to work out how many people in UK regularly #drive - it is hard to get accurate data!

There are about 34 million private #cars in UK of 42 million #vehicles including #vans, #lorries, #buses, #motorcyles and anything else that needs registration mark from #DVLA GB or #DVA NI

About 43 million people in GB (excluding NI) hold a full #DrivingLicence - but not reliable data for number of drivers as these records include people who have died or emigrated!

And some folk own more than one #vehicle, others have a licence but don't drive - I'd guess at figure for private car drivers being around 25-30 million, but levels of #motoring will vary wildly between regions
