The remains of Burghead promontory fort at Burghead in Moray. This Pictish fortress was occupied for up to 500 years until 884, when it was captured by Sigurd the Mighty, the Norse Earl of Orkney. The busy harbour at Burghead in Moray. The town has an ancient history and the large fortress whose remains can still be seen on the headland above the harbour was very probably the capital of the Pictish kingdom of Fortriu. Ducks! Some are plain and familiar, some are drop-dead gorgeous. I can't remember being closer to a Long-tailed Duck, in fact there were three of them, in Burghead Harbour. Fabulous.
