A weary door for the weary traveller in #Görlitz.

As you might guess, this hotel, Görlitzer Hof, has seen better days. Built in the late 1870s, it closed its #doors in 1992 and has been a lost place ever since. However, the #door to a brighter future may soon open again! A local investor has purchased the building and plans to restore it – just as they have successfully done with other buildings in Görlitz – though perhaps not as a hotel. Let's hope they preserve the marvellous door ornaments.
Until then, you might be able to explore the site on a Lost Places tour led by a local historian. According to a recent newspaper article, tours could include this building from March 2026, though I couldn't find any info on the tour operator's website. If it is included, it must be a stunning sight, with many of the #hotel rooms still featuring their original wallpapers and curtains.

Hmm, I've already posted a #FensterFreitag today – though I'd planned to share a particularly lovely recent window. So instead, I'll allow myself a second post with an old photo of the #GreatHall at #HamptonCourtPalace. It's been sitting in my Pixelfed folder forever, and the #pareidolia seems to grow stronger every time I look at it! 😄

A fine selection of stained glass for #FensterFreitag this week.

This is inside the prayer hall of the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. Honestly this photo doesn't even do it justice. The Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia are both huge and quite close together in the city centre. Each mosque broadcasts the call to prayer on loudspeakers and standing in the middle of these two having it in stereo was very moving and something I'll never forget. We were also there during Ramadan in July 2016 and every night the streets would fill up with joyous people and music and foods from around 9pm when observers were breaking their fasts.

#FotoVorschlag: (Bastel-)Keller // Basement (hobby room)

Keller kann sich doch heute keiner mehr leisten. Wir haben einen Anbau für Stauraum und größere Basteleien und Schubladen im Arbeitszimmer voller Bastelkram, aber das ist nicht sonderlich spannend. Darum habe ich zum #FensterFreitag nur das Kellerfensterchen eines kleinen Weinkellers (in dem zwei riesige Fässer waren) im Rheinland-Pfälzischen #Freilichtmuseum #BadSobernheim. Das müsst ihr mir jetzt so glauben. 😅

Nobody can afford a basement these days. We've got a shed for storage and bigger projects and plenty of smaller crafting supplies in my office drawers, but none of it is very exciting to look at. So for #WindowFriday, here's the small #window of a tiny wine cellar (where two large barrels were stored) at the Rhineland-Palatinate Open Air Museum in Bad Sobernheim. I'm afraid you'll just have to take my word for it on this one. 😅
