I built a free tool to help you appeal the recent property tax hikes. It pulls comparable home sales from public data, scores them by similarity to your property, and generates a PDF you can upload directly to the appeal portal. You'll need to know how run Python scripts. #asheville #buncombe #avl

#Buncombe has some similar things, including numbers to know, which should/might be useful:

Want to thank @firefly for pointing out the 3 #measles cases now in #Buncombe County, my area near #Asheville

Falling vaccination rates, lying and stupidity have brought us here, and people are going to be hurt.

Measles reported in Buncombe as public health officials worry about spread in the face of declining vaccination rates

A major outbreak of measles in South Carolina has spread to Buncombe County, with public health officials announcing three cases Tuesday and expressing concern that more will follow due to decreased vaccination rates and the highly contagious nature of the disease. The Buncombe cases are confined to three siblings whose family visited Spartanburg County, South […]

#Asheville Police Department's #Flock #ALPR cameras feed into #Buncombe county's surveillance network provided by #Fusus.

APD has 5 Flock cameras currently, but private companies can by their own cameras (Flock or other surveillance cameras) and connect their feeds into the county's Fusus system for all the little piggies to watch. There are already many privately-operated Flock cameras in the area.

Learn what they look like, keep an eye out for them, and add them to the map! It's fun and easy! Sometimes you can find them on Google Streetview. Here's how you can add them to the map:
https://deflock.me/report/id

If adding them to the map is too annoying, feel free to send me photos of any Flock cameras you find in the Buncombe county area and tell me where they are at (if they aren't already on the map of course).

Here are some photos of APD's Flock camera on State St. (in front of China Taste of course, pointed toward the intersection).

More reporting on the dismal job #HCA is doing here in #Asheville after their purchase of our Mission healthcare system, from the #AVLWatchdog

HCA is the group that when challenged about the standard of care in our community after their purchase, stated that they "had never committed to providing quality care." I still want that on a billboard.

HCA was in potential non-compliance with Mission agreement in 3 areas in 2024, independent monitor report states

For the second year in a row, the independent monitor of HCA Healthcare’s $1.5 billion purchase of Mission Health has found the Nashville-based company potentially not in compliance with the purchase agreement it entered into in 2019, according to a new report released Tuesday by Dogwood Health Trust. The 40-page report from Boston-based Affiliated Monitors […]

"The National Weather Service is advising that strong to severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts, hail, and isolated tornadoes are possible for our area tonight after 11 p.m., with the highest risk in Western #Buncombe County. Not every place will see a storm, but if one does occur, have multiple ways of receiving a warning. Make a plan, charge devices in case of power outages, keep a weather radio handy, and listen for alerts. Though general weakening of storms is likely, timely weather information can make a big difference, and preparedness is always a good decision. "

"The National Weather Service is advising that the majority of #Buncombe County will receive approximately 2 inches of rain through 8 p.m. Tues. In eastern Buncombe County, that accumulation could be closer to 3 inches. The NWS advises that three inches or more of rain could initiate landslides on modified or developed slopes. Additional impacts include elevated lightning risks, especially in the southern and eastern parts of the county, along with fog in the east. This weather event is not predicted to have impacts like Helene, but nuisance flooding is possible. Remember - never drive through flooded roadways. "

Wildfire risk remains high. Recent fires in Leicester and Bee Tree are contained. Reduce risks by clearing combustibles and checking burn bans at buncombeready.org.

An update from #Asheville #Buncombe county:

"Buncombe County 4:15 p.m. Friday update:
The fire on Old Fort Road is 85% contained. Continue to avoid the area.
The Freedom Farm Fire is 100% contained, and all resources are cleared.
Traffic impacts from the lane closures on I-240 and I-26 are high. Check drivenc.gov for real-time traffic updates. The Transfer Station will be open on Saturday. "

I believe that last traffic-related issue was due to the quick spin-up of a fire at the landfill which has basically shut down a whole chunk of this side of town.

The Freedom Farm fire was our closest, so happy about its containment. #NCwx
