When I became a US Citizen, I had a ton of friends and co-workers tell me about a sense of joy and pride to see people come to the United States and want to become a part of ”their” country and make it ”our country.” I didn’t quite get what they were talking about then.
However, I just saw this clip in the Swedish evening paper, “Aftonbladet,” as it is Sweden’s national day today. It’s about the Swedish immigration authorities in Stockholm, having added a reception for those who made it through the process and were granted citizenship in Stockholm today. 😍
Now I get what all these people were telling me back then. I obviously no longer live in Sweden, but I still become both happy and proud when seeing all these people come and enrich Sweden and the Swedish culture with their particular flavors and qualities. 💙💛🥰
