Cade the CatDidn't forget to take a food pic this time! The base is nothing special; just a pack of Nissin instant ramen, you can get five of them for $1.25 at the dollar store. A well-beaten egg and a slice of American cheese make the broth rich, creamy, and filling. A scoop of garlic paste and one of mirepoix add a layer each to the flavor of the bowl. A dash of lime juice adds acidity, and a shake of mild hot sauce awakens the taste buds. All it's missing is a bit of protein; if I had a soft-boiled egg and a slice of bacon or pork belly to add to this, I'd be in heaven! All together, I'd say this meal cost me about a dollar. It would have been two dollars if I had added in the extra protein. I really should cook like this more often!

The ham has been cured. It has been rinsed. It has been soaked. Now it is roasting.
We'll see how my attempt to turn a bargain bin pork sirloin roast into a succulent slab of ham goes.
For breakfast today I am having instant chow mein with imitation chicken. Why? Because if I'm living on budget meals, I may as well get some variety in my budget meals by shopping at the local asian market as well as the local supermarket.
