Sometimes called #parakeets... i thought somehow parakeet was a word closer to the indigenous term for it.. but it seems to be the contrary:

Poor Praxis is having a bit of a rough molt and is cranky. I spent the whole day yesterday being bossed around by this ounce and a half creature, who is the most impatient being I've ever met.

We have a routine that must be strictly followed or this little feathered person will run around on me, scolding me and gently biting my fingers to get me to comply. It's actually hilarious and I love this little gal so much. Praxis looks really fierce because she's half English budgie, which gives her the prominent eagle-eyebrows.

Parrots are people. They communicate clearly. It's a human failure that we refuse to understand what they're telling us, and this applies to all animals. If you respect a creature enough to truly listen (with all your senses), they tell you what they want and how they feel about you.

January is #AdoptARescuedBirdMonth, and we have plenty of #birds in our care in need of new homes, including Opal and Garnet at Nevins Farm. They’re both #Budgerigars–a kind of parakeet–and are docile, gentle, and can even talk! Opal is a baby, so she needs to go to a home with a #parakeet or existing flock. Visit during open hours (12-4:30p, Tue-Sun) to adopt!
