È stato inaugurato oggi, dopo il lavoro di restauro, il Forte Aurelia, luogo simbolo della difesa di Roma capitale. “Si tratta della realizzazione di un sogno - ha detto il generale in seconda della Guardia di Finanza, Bruno Buratti - perché dopo dieci anni di lavoro viene recuperato e torna alla vita il Forte Aurelia, che è parte integrante assieme agli altri forti, del campo trincerato della storia di questa città. Questo forte è stato edificato dove i francesi nel 1849 avevano impiantato le opere di assedio per attaccare le mura Gianicolensi cui seguì la caduta della Repubblica Romana. È stata la prima opera che il governo italiano ha voluto realizzare subito dopo la breccia di Porta Pia, e il primo forte ad essere costruito è stato questo, sulla via Aurelia, dove erano passati i francesi vent'anni prima, e dove si voleva che non passasse più nessuno. Quindi ha una forte valenza evocativa. Questo luogo sarà interamente dedicato in tutti i suoi sei ettari, e in tutti i suoi 4.000 metri quadrati di ambienti coperti, ad attività culturali, sociali, si presterà ad organizzazioni di eventi d'inclusione, cerimonie, commemorazioni, convegni e mostre temporanee. Sarà un luogo destinato a raccontare la sua storia e anche la nostra storia come Guardia di Finanza, visto che dividiamo questi 150 anni di storia tra noi e l'esercito. La costruzione iniziò nel 1877, e quindi il prossimo anno il Forte festeggerà i suoi 150 anni di storia. Quindi siamo arrivati proprio al punto giusto, è un luogo che la Guardia di Finanza intende restituire alla città di Roma, perché è nato per difendere questa città e continuerà a svolgere questa grande funzione. Noi ci auguriamo che sia anche il volano attraverso il quale si possa recuperare un percorso culturale e la restituzione del senso del sistema di questi forti”.

Today, after the restoration work, Forte Aurelia was inaugurated, a symbol of the defense of Rome’s capital. “This is the realization of a dream – said Brigadier General Bruno Buratti of the Finance Police – because after ten years of work, Forte Aurelia is recovered and brought back to life, which is an integral part, together with the other forts, of the fortified area of this city’s history. This fort was built where the French had established siege operations in 1849 to attack the Gianicolense walls, which followed the fall of the Roman Republic. It was the first work the Italian government wanted to realize immediately after the breach of Porta Pia, and the first fort to be built was this one, on Via Aurelia, where the French had passed twenty years before, and where no one was to pass again. Therefore, it has a strong evocative value. This place will be entirely dedicated in all its six hectares, and in all its 4,000 square meters of covered areas, to cultural and social activities, and will be suitable for organizing inclusive events, ceremonies, commemorations, conferences and temporary exhibitions. It will be a place intended to tell its history and also our history as the Finance Police, since we share these 150 years of history between ourselves and the army. Construction began in 1877, and therefore next year the Fort will celebrate its 150 years of history. So we have arrived at the perfect moment; it is a place that the Finance Police intends to return to the city of Rome, because it was created to defend this city and will continue to perform this great function. We hope that it will also be the catalyst through which we can recover a cultural path and the return of the sense of this system of forts.”
