"We have detained a person of interest," Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said. "We are lifting the shelter-in-place."
The person-of-interest is a man in his early 20s & was caught about 3:45 am at a hotel in Coventry, RI, ~28 miles south of Providence. He was allegedly in possession of 2 guns.
This will be a state prosecution, not a federal prosecution.
Finals and classes have been cancelled.

“As of 7:20 pm on Saturday, Rhode Island Hospital has received the following patients related to the active shooter incident at Brown University.
Rhode Island Hospital currently has eight (8) patients:
Six (6) patients are in a critical but stable condition
One (1) patient is in critical condition
One (1) patient is in stable condition
Providence Mayor Brett Smiley announced that two people died in the shooting.
At this time, The Miriam Hospital has not received any patients.
Rhode Island Hospital is working closely with and providing support to all impacted family members, and remains in continuous communication with Brown University.”
