A monument to the poet Iosif Brodsky was erected in 2011 in Moscow on Novinsky Boulevard (garden Ring). The authors of the monument are sculptor Georgy Frangulyan and architect Sergey Skuratov. Here, #Brodsky doesn't come out very well.
One remark by Heaney is his poetry written in English was lame.
Auden reputedly said Brodsky in Russian must be poet of the first order.
Translation always seems to return it to# Nabokov's The Art of the Translation..

I have no real insight into Brodsky's poetry, but remember & have never forgotten the 'raise the plane of regard'. It doesn't mean look up. But somehow it does.
When I was a young child growing up in Baghdad
my father used to pop me down to The Coronet Bookshop in his Sunbeam Alpine to get my comics: Eagle, Dandy & Beano. On the drive back I always started looking at Dan Dare's latest doings. Once Dad suddenly said, put those down - look out the window. I have never forgotten that.
