Oh the irony! Politicians in the UK like to describe their parties as a "broad church", when the reality is that most denominations, especially the Anglican communion, seem intent on tearing themselves apart. #BroadChurch #politics #uk

Whenever I dive into a psychological crime thriller, I can't help but reflect on the creative process: what was the vision behind the script? 🧠

It really makes you wonder—have they studied the gold standard set by #Broadchurch? 📈

Almost finished watching Season 1 of #Broadchurch.

Mentally comparing it with #Gracepoint:

  • Mark Latimer is a more likeable character than Mark Solano
  • Beth Solano's backstory is richer than Beth Latimer's
  • Nick Nolte's (Gracepoint) character is richer than David Bradley's. Both are excellent actors, but Nolte's performance was fantastic.
  • Broadchurch stars three Doctor Whos and a companion, Gracepoint only has Tennant 😄
  • Josh Hamilton's (Gracepoint) Joe Miller sells the whacko angle, while Matthew Gravelle's Joe is a more tragic character.
  • Renee Clemons (Gracepoint) is a more relatable character than Becca Fisher.
  • Gracepoint feels a bit more graphic, in good and bad ways
  • Owen's mom (Gracepoint) has a more detailed backstory than Olly's mum
  • What the heck was going on with the reverend guy on Gracepoint? He was SO creepy. Arthur Darvill (Broadchurch) did an amazing job.
  • I haven't watched S1E8 of Broadchurch yet, so I don't know if the ending is exactly the same, but I think Gracepoint has an added twist.
  • Forgot to add that the crazy aloof old lady (Nigel's mom in Broadchurch) is more of a tragic and relatable character in Gracepoint. In Broadchurch, she's just a total bench, and pretty evil.
  • Gracepoint sells the "how did you not know?" angle between Ellie and the crazy old lady much more poetically. It's more of an implied comparison in Broadchurch.
  • The older reporter lady in Gracepoint is a more interesting character, but both actors are excellent.

#Binged all of #Gracepoint last night (the U.S. version of #Broadchurch).

#DavidTennant's accent was interesting. It was convincing enough to honestly sound like it was someone else dubbing their voice in (😄), but also, it was just generic enough to make me wonder where in the U.S. his character was supposed to be from. Both the name of the show and his accent seemed generically Southern, but it was supposed to take place in California.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Now watching a few episodes of Broadchurch, so that David Tennant can go back to being #Scottish in my mind, and my mind will stop feeling weird.

Because an American David Tennant is just weird. 😆

P.S., one thing I did not understand about the U.S. version... why is the guy playing Rev. Coates umm... putting out so much closeted gay energy? You could power a server room with that poor guy's repressed energy. It's not a part of the character's story from what I can tell, so... why? Just to fit the trope? Arthur Darvill's version didn't come across that way at all. If they used that for something in the story, even if it deviated far from the U.K. version, it would've been totally alright. But as it is, it's like there's some subliminal tension there that just never gets addressed or used.
Chekhov's gun rusted. 🤷‍♂️
