Donald RoyI have read an interesting and troubling report in today's #ftweekend magazine. It relates to the business model of #BritanniaHotels - a group to which many of the hotels currently housing #asylumseekers in the #uk belong. It has grown by acquiring hotels which been among the grandest in towns such as #blackpool and #scarborough and indeed a city like #liverpool and rendering them profitable by skimping on maintenance.
It is a hard thing to say but it may well be the case that asylum seekers may find the military estate offering a higher standard of accommodation than where they are now. Harder still is the ethnic background of the owner of #BritanniaHotels - one which could lead to very unfortunate tropes. Last I should say that I did manage to stay twice in one of the hotels in the group a few years back - vigorous complaining worked!
